Jezkazgan is in a river basin a Kara-kengir, in the centre of Kazakhstan. The city has been based in 1954, from settlement the Big Dzhezkazgan has been transformed to a city. The city name in a free translation from the Kazakh language means «a place where dug copper». Basis of the industry of Zhezkazgan is copper metallurgy.
