The Rudniy city is located in Kostanayskiy area of Kazakhstan, on the river Tobol. Has arisen in 1957 in connection with development of an iron-ore deposit and building of Sokolovskiy-Sarbajskiy mountain-concentrating industrial complex.
Originally the city name was thought up by builders of trust "Sokolovrudstroy". Later miners began to name it "Rudnogorsk". In 1955 the city name has definitively been established.
