Turkestan - a city in the South Kazakhstan area. The first city settlement on this place has arisen about 500 d.C. (Shavgar), later, as Jassy was called and entered into the state of Tamerlan. Modern Turkestan with the area of 24 thousand in sq.km. and the 120 thousand population develops and becomes active the large industrial, educational and cultural centre, and also the centre of the international and local tourism. In a city there are 13 industrial targets, among which largest: factory, machine-building, joint-stock company Turkestan-agroremmash, a shvejno-knitting factory, factory of antibiotics and many other. One of the main sights of a city is Mavzolej Hodzhi Ahmed Jassavi. The building has a huge portal and a number of domes. Round its central hall — kazanlyk — it is united more than 35 premises of different function. Kazanlik is blocked by greatest of remained in Kazakhstan and Central Asia a brick dome in diameter of 18,2 metres. For Turkis kazanlyk was a unification and hospitality symbol.
