Ust-Kamenogorsk the administrative centre of the East Kazakhstan area, is located on a place of merge of the rivers Irtyshs and Ulba. The city history begins with the fortress creation, put by major Liharev in 1720. In second half of XVIII century about fortress immigrants, basically the Siberian Cossacks as was also exiled much began to settle. There were years and decades. The fortress of Ust-Kamenogorsk was a village and then and a district city. In 1868 Ust-Kamenogorsk has received the status of the city. To the XX-th century trade continues to develop, the landing stage and the railway is under construction. Modern Ust-Kamenogorsk is the centre of nonferrous metallurgy of Kazakhstan. In a city the culture, art and formation also are developed. There are two cinemas, three museums, drama theatre with Russian and Kazakh troupes, the House of friendship of the people, the Palace of sports and two stadiums.
