Karagandy Region is located in the central part of Kazakhstan, right in the center of Eurasia continent. Nowadays it is the largest region in the Kazakhstan and has a great industrial potential.
This region was founded on May, 10 in 1932. First the center of Karagandy Region was Petropavl, but since August, 3 1936 it was changed to Karagandy. The region is divided into 11 cities, 39 villages, 9 districts and 273 auls (type of fortified village).
Great amounts of gold, molybdenum, zinc, lead, manganese, tungsten, coal and polymetallic ore are concentrated in Karagandy Region. Power industry, fuel, ferrous metallurgy, mechanical engineering, chemical industry and agriculture are developed as well.
Karagandy Region is well known for outstanding people such as Bukhar Zhyrau, Sana Bi, composer Tattymbet and Madie, writers Saken Seyfulline and Gabyden Mustaphin and many others.
