Zhambyl Region with its capital - Taraz city is situated in the south of Kazakhstan, it was founded in 1939. It was called Zhambul Region till 1993.
There are Kazakh and Russian drama theaters, Philharmonic Society, 5 museums, 219 libraries, 143 clubs and cultural centers, 10 hotels in the province.
It has a great tourist potential for Kazakhstan. Sayram – Taraz – Aksholak – Akyr-Tobe – Kulan – Merke – Shu – Aspara – Korday- it is the part of Great Silk Road, where you meet many interesting historical and cultural monuments. The monuments of ancient architecture such as Aisha-Bibi and Babadzhan-Hatun Mausoleums(X—XI centuries), Karakhan and Dautebk Mausoleums are situated in Taraz. Also there are 3 reserves: State Natural Reserves “Berikkara” tract, State Natural Reserve “Karakunuz” tract, Andasay State Natural Reserve.
